Completely unable to play videos on Android normally

I am using Magic Photos Magic Photos | 8th Wall | 8th Wall
This example makes an AR video player, and it works well on iOS

But the video always freezes on Android! Including the project of this example, the video also freezes when used on Android! Why is this?

1Huawei Mate60Pro Xiaomi 14 Pro

In my testing, any Android device in my company would freeze

As low as 1-5fps, including videos of your demonstration projects. I want to confirm if 8thwall does not support Android?

Including Google and any browser, but everything runs smoothly on iOS

We have tried to reduce it to any frame rate, bitrate, etc., but it cannot run smoothly

8th Wall definitely works on Android! We test with a wide range of Android devices, though I’m not certain if we’ve tested that specific model. Let me look into it further for you.

Can you provide the Android models that you have tested?

We don’t have an exhaustive list of Android models that have been tested. In general, Android devices are supported; however, performance is a different issue. In general, the higher the GeekBench score (and overall compute power) of the device, the smoother the experience will run.

The issue you’re facing may be more related to the processing power of the devices you’re testing on. For reference, iPhone 16 has a single-core GeekBench score of 3294. The devices you’ve mentioned in this post are significantly lower:

  • Huawei Mate 60 Pro has a single-core GeekBench score of 1250.
  • Xiaomi 14 Pro has a single-core GeekBench score of 2064.

The iPhone 8 has a single-core GeekBench score of 1033. I would expect the performance of the video and overall AR experience on this device to be more comparable of what you’re seeing on the Huawei Mate 60 Pro.

We tested your experience on a Samsung S24 and video playback was smooth. The GeekBench score of this device is 1930, so I’m surprised you’re having issues with the Xiaomi 14 Pro.

What are the dimensions and overall size of the videos you’re using in the experience? Can you confirm which browser you’re using on these devices?
