Issue with Hider Material for Portals

Hello! I saw @Ian’s portal that was shared on LinkedIn and thought it would be a perfect way to replace an old idea to overlay a video tour of my studio at work on my physical door to show passing folks what’s inside. However, I ran into an issue and it could be because I started with the gaussian splat template instead of an empty project…

I couldn’t get the hider walls to actually hide my splat and then I started tinkering with the layering since I read on a separate topic that the hider wall should be above the hidden object in the hierarchy.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this?

Another question I had was whether or not the door animation was first done in Blender or could the “door swivel” be done using the animation component in the studio? I’m assuming the target would then be the ‘camera’ as the viewer approaches the door, but I haven’t had a chance to dive into the documentation yet.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Joy_Guey you can take a look at a quick demo example I created here:

I am currently working on a official project library sample in the near future. I cropped my splat (in scaniverse) so that it essentially stops before the hider walls. I hope this helps.

The door animation could be done in studio if the pivot poitn is correclty set beforehand. I personally created the animation in Blender and just exproted the .glb with the baked animation in it, then you can easily play it in studio.

The animation is just a time animation and I walk through it. You can certainly add more logic to make this a better UX. I’d suggest a proximity trigger so that when the user approaches, you can initiate the opening animation.
