Glitter texture?

I can’t find anything in the 8th Wall pre-made projects, but is there a way to create a glittery material that reacts to light? Kind of like this?

8th Wall doesn’t supply any pre-created materials. However, you can probably get this effect with some roughness, metallic and normal maps for glitter.

For example you can take this Blender file example here:

Then add the material to your hat object and then bake the normal map (glitter is essentially can be done with just a normal map) reference this youtube video (keep in mind that you have to bake the texture in order for it to show up in the final .glb model, as the origonal texture is dynamically created in blender and will not export correctly)

Then you can bake the texture and export it as a .glb file. I went throught this process and was able to create a .glb glitter model

You can also go a more simple route if you want to try first. You can simply search for a glitter normal map or use this normal map on your 3D model and see how it looks.

You may want to add a roughness map as well to get an even more reaslitic looking glitter effect.

Great info, thanks! I just finished following a Blender tutorial that basically created a normal map like that procedurally, which I’m guessing won’t hold over to 8th Wall so I’ll have to bake it. But let me give it a go with the roughness and metallic options you mentioned and see what happens!

Okay I got it looking good in Blender, and the normal is baked in, but in the AR experience the hat is basically black with little white sparkles. I have a light in the scene, is there something else I need to do to brighten up my glitter material?

(Sorry for the multiple comments, it won’t let me post more than one image in a comment because it thinks I’m a n00b, but I’ve been using your Slack channel for over a year.) But I did some tests and it seems the metallic setting is making it turn black, but without it, it doesn’t really read as glitter. How to fix?

Never mind! I found your post about metallic materials and added the reflections module, increased the lighting, and added a bit of emission to the color in the glitter material and I think I have something usable.

Yes, glad you were able to solve it!

For anyone referencing this thread here is the info about adding a reflection modeule to 3D models
