Hi I’m wondering the headline. But basically I want to open the conversation about the future.
Do you think, those building are the ones who are actively shaping the future?
Hi I’m wondering the headline. But basically I want to open the conversation about the future.
Do you think, those building are the ones who are actively shaping the future?
Great question and I find my answer always evolving to this. These days I believe we all have collective ownership of the future as it affects us all. With the rise of AI tools, I find it more important than ever to have democratic processes, and considerations of equity should play a role.
I’m curious where you stand on this as well.
Mind-blowing, what you say. It makes me reflect a lot.
From my side, I think we need to consider different dimensions: the context of wars, global warming, AI, blockchain, and the real-world metaverse.
As I see it, we are at the beginning of what might be the end or the start of humanity’s future.
Global warming is no joke. In terms of shaping the future, stopping a war is not within our control. But, as I see it, actions speak louder than words, and doing something does make a change in what I call our reality.
As a reality developer, knowing AR, VR, and MR development, I see the future of our world changing in the way we interact with software.
When I design these experiences, I try to incorporate all the learning, and honestly, I have found nothing but joy and pride in building experiences meant to make an impact and, hopefully, move our reality toward a better future.
I believe that those who actively build that future are agents of change because we have the power to make changes.
As captains of our destiny, it is our duty and no one else’s to shape our destiny. It is within this role of captain of my life that I’ve emigrated in search of a better future.
From now on, I see different realities in terms of the one governments want us to live in and the one we actually live in.
While I don’t have the budget or the team, I think a meaningful change in my local community is possible, always thinking in terms of scale.
So, when thinking about the future, I believe that those who will shape the future are not the ones who have the knowledge but will be the ones who have the technology, the budget, the team, and time.
I just hope the future we head into is more inclusive and equal for everyone because we are all equally different.
So, it is within this community that I truly believe the future will be one with a positive impact on humanity. It is by Niantic’s values that I think the future of digital worlds will exist.
One where people explore our world and connect more deeply with reality thanks to technology, using it not to immerse and abstract from the world but instead to escape from reality to augment capabilities.
I think the future will be built right here on this platform. I think we can expect greatness from that type of future.
But to do so, and for that future to be built, opportunities need to be equal for everyone, independent of their ethnicity, demographic, and age.
I hope those who attempt to shape the future take care of the actions once used AI, more so in an upcoming era where AI will be inside robots and robots take jobs massively.
It is within this complex upcoming reality that I wonder. Creating filters to help a major company engage and monetize? Or build your own future outside the boundaries of social AR policies?
I always built software thinking about and designing for when we have the Glasses of Apple; now that they have arrived. And as a Unity developer and now webAR developer, I will lean on 8thwall and Unreal as ways to design for the upcoming generation of revolutionary WebXR.
I think many will come after, and as a leader, I have the duty to pave the way for the upcoming generation.
So, I think that in the hope of building the future I describe, there needs to be a way for developers to monetize the knowledge and experience gained.
What was good about the Spark community and project was that everyone could participate, regardless of their demographic, age, or knowledge, and it was free to publish.
I need people from around, and we unite toward building and growing together. But eventually, I had to monetize.
And now we are here, in a similar position where others will be. At some point, I need to monetize the knowledge and experiences.
It would be nice if a more inclusive future could be planned and made a reality.
So far, I’ve been engaged in Niantic dev communities and designing a leading future where the city is in.
So, I hope more XR could be developed in LatAm. Because here we have super talented people. And the way I see it, my role is not about developing software.
It is about changing reality with augmented reality and XR technologies. Eventually, one day, the XR glasses for mass consumption will land, cheap and with style.
And it is in that future where I want the 8thwall and Lightship AR to lead the way to a future where everyone can participate, and we can make a positive impact on humanity, through Niantic values.
What do you say, Pablo? Am I asking too much?
Good question. My hope for myself, and society, is that these tools are available to those who don’t come from an extensive computer science(CS) background. To be fair, my experience of the CS community has been very positive compared to the tv/film industry I came from, who in the UK are a very homogenised white upper/middle class cis male crowd. Who fiercely defend their and their cliques interests, with very little thought on the consequences on society. This CS community seems vastly more diverse and there are constant ideological discussions about responsible practice which is fantastic. But I still think to actually get the tools and belief into the hands of all, more effort needs to be done. I would like to to see outreach bootcamps setup by 8th wall for people with little to no background in CS.
