Using a splash screen with multiple videos

I have a canvas that uses a splash screen to initiate a video with sound. After getting that to work, I have attempted to add a second video to the canvas to extend the AR experience within the physical environment. I eventually tried this by adding the video through an image target set up in a separate space. So now I have the splash screen and then a Default space with video number 2.

What has happened is the first video no longer plays when the camera hovers over the first target image. Neither does the second video, except the audio from video 2 autoplays right out of the splash screen.

I feel like I’m close but I am at a loss.

Edit: I have like 15 projects now because every time I try to work this out I duplicate the original so I don’t lose it. Each time I try to add the second video, whether to the Default space or the Splash Screen space, when it doesn’t work out and I remove it altogether the whole project stops working. Even the original video that hasn’t been touched. Somewhere along the way, just dragging and dropping is destroying the code and I can’t debug it without access to the index.html

Hi, can you land your changes and share the project with the support workspace so I can take a look? Also let me know the name of the project here.

Just shared it. The project name is 1129absinthe

Taking a look at the project, I think I see what’s happening. Since there are no lights in the space and the Material is set to Standard, the videos appear black because the shader is expecting light that isn’t there. I switched the material to Unlit, and the video displayed correctly.

That said, the video size is worth addressing. This single asset is 78.22 MB, which is extremely large and could still cause decoding or performance problems depending on the device. I recommend using a free, open-source tool like HandBrake to compress the video without noticeably reducing quality.

After switching the material to Unlit and optimizing the video assets, test again and see if things improve.

Thank you. I made those changes but it was still not playing both videos. I made a bunch of adjustments and went down a bit of a rabbit hole so im not entirely sure what all I did. But it now acknowledges both videos but only plays the audio with a blown up still image. The audio also seems to start immediately without the image target in frame.

That happens because Image Targets do not disable the entity when the target is lost, they only hide the content. If you want the audio to stop when the Image Target is lost, you will need to create a custom component that applies the Disabled component to the child object(s) when the target is lost and removes the Disabled component when the target is found.

I’m sharing an alternate version with support. it is called PaulandOscar. Same issue; only one video plays, but I think this version is working better. I made the changes to the lighting as suggested and I uploaded smaller videos. This version has both videos in the same space. The video that plays as intended is FINALOscar_Wilde.mp4. All I need is for the FINALPaul.mp4 video to play on image target.

I took a look at the project and re-adding the Image Target entity to the project seems to have fixed the second video not playing. I’ve gone ahead and landed the changes let me know if you’re still having problems.

did you do this in the 1129absinthe project or the paulandoscarw project? The 1129absinthe project failed to build. The paulandoscarw project plays the audio from the video Final_Paul.mp4 immediately from the splash screen. Both videos are hidden.

Continuing to look into this issue now, I want to make sure it’s not a bug with Studio and Image Targets.

EDIT: Can you try the most recent version of the “paulvandoscarw” project with Google Chrome?

I tried Google Chrome, both as the 8thwall.com browser and as the default browser on my connected device. Both of the videos display a frozen first frame on image target. No audio plays at all. This is confusing because when I use Edge as the 8thwall.com browser and my connected device uses Safari, the first video worked as intended. The second video froze on the first frame. So it is behaving differently with different browsers it seems.

Can you let me know the make and model of the device you’re seeing the issues on? I’m not able to reproduce the issue on an iPhone 15.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 13 both had the same response. Although I haven’t tried the iPhone 13 since last week. I will try that one again.

I’m not sure what you all did to fix this, but it worked. Can I know what the fix was?

You can check the Project History to see the latest changes.
