VPS activation Issues

hi c:
I have an issue with the VPS scans
we have 6 locations to activate in Zurich for a project due to the next week
but many of the scans activation failed despite the fact that we followed the guidelines
for example for this location - it just saying - contact Support. Which is very frustrating.

How can we resolve these location activations?
it would be cool to have a more detailed feedback on what went wrong and what we need to do to make them work

Also, who is a good person to reach out to to help to make these locations activated due to the next week?

Hi! I’d be happy to forward this to our mapping team. Could you please copy the Location ID from the Location Modal and share it with me so I can pass it along?

@GeorgeButler here’s the location ID 7e75bb3e202a38b599d69dcf9531f4e2.16
let me know if i can add you on discord for DMs (that didnt work c:)
or if here is a good place to resolve these issues

Thanks for sharing the ID! Let’s chat here unless it’s account related so others can benefit from the possible solution. I’ll let you know when I have updates.

@GeorgeButler just wonder if you have any updates on this case?

I wonder if we need to add more scans or create a new location and rescan it again multiple times from scratch? I wish we had a better cause of activation failure message and some potential solutions written on the page. let me know, what would be a good thing to do to resolve this
we have multiple other locations to resolve also after this

The team is currently looking into it, nothing I can share yet but feel free to share the other location IDs as well so we can take a look.

Hi George,
Thank you for the update, as requested, here are the additional location IDs for your team to review:
43c8319a4efe3f57b666c7d65790f97b.16
84347f8db3e4357589adc8f37477cc4c.16

5a0ecfbe67fb38f1b5c51657e2552813.16

At this stage, we still have 2 locations pending that don’t yet have IDs. I’ll make sure to share them with you as soon as they are available.
Thanks again for your support, much appreciated.

The mapping team was able to generate a mesh for the first location. However, I am concerned it may not perform as well as expected since it is a repetitive pattern on concrete rather than a standalone feature like a statue.

I will go ahead and send the rest of these to the mapping team. Are they all experiencing the same issue?

Hi! Thank you! So, the problems appear to be different

Manhole 1, 43c8319a4efe3f57b666c7d65790f97b.16: The scan turned out fragmented and unusable, although in our individual scans everything looked fine. It’s as if the mesh didn’t compose properly.

Manhole 5, 5a0ecfbe67fb38f1b5c51657e2552813.16: It doesn’t appear on the map (edited)

@GeorgeButler I just checked the location you managed to fix
(location ID 7e75bb3e202a38b599d69dcf9531f4e2.16)
I have couple questions about it

  1. the location is still marked as not activated. why is that?
is it a problem for a AR project to work?

  2. the mesh looks quite incomplete
how can we make it more complete in the center?
do we need to make more scans ?

  3. would this mesh be enough for the tracking?

update:
surprisingly the mesh looks different when exported into the editor o:

I’ll look into why it’s not marked as activated. Additionally the meshes are just a visual representation and don’t always reflect all of the data that VPS uses to localize.

About Manhole 5, we did our best but it failed activation, maybe the rain?
In these case also, we are wondering if would it be better to add more scan to the existing location or creating a new one, what do you suggest?

Location Id: 5a0ecfbe67fb38f1b5c51657e2552813.16

It’s likely that these locations don’t meet the standards for a Public Location. I can look further into why the activation is failing. Additionally, the mesh shouldn’t be an issue, as there’s currently a bug with mesh rendering that prevents the full mesh from displaying. The data is still there; it’s just not rendering.

Thank you for your answer!
Now, with more scans, it seems that the issue with Manhole 1 has been resolved, but not with Manhole 5.
Therefore, it doesn’t appear to be a problem related to the public location itself.

We are developing this project in collaboration with the City of Zurich, and it’s an artistic installation that will bring significant attention to 8th Wall.

For this reason, we kindly ask you to take another look and verify the location more thoroughly.
Many people will visit the sites, and it’s very important that Manhole 5 also works properly.

I’ve sent Manhole 5 to the Mapping Team for a second review.

Thank you so much for your understanding.

Hi George, do you happen to have any news about location 5?
Thank you!

Hi George,

We were wondering if the Mapping Team has been able to check why Manhole 5 is still not activated.

The mesh looks great, but this issue is starting to create some problems in our roadmap, and we’d really like to see it working soon.

Thank you so much for your help!

The mesh is there but the location isn’t activated? Can you share a screenshot?
