I’ve made a scan in Scaniverse in order to set up a private test scan on the VPS map. In the documentation it says that I have to connect Scaniverse with my 8th Wall account. The interface on the screenshots in the documentation show some buttons to connect the 8th Wall account but none of the buttons show up in my Scaniverse app (iOS). I’m using the same email for Scaniverse login as for for 8th Wall but there is simply no option in the app to connect the two. Hence, I cannot set up a test scan on the VPS map altogether. Is there any solution?
Thanks!
Welcome to the forums!
The interface is a bit confusing here. The linking of your account to Scaniverse is done by scanning the QR code generated on 8th Wall’s Geospatial Browser when you click on any location and click “Generate QR Code”.
Hi George, thank you! How do I access the GSB after logging into my account? I’ve only accessed it through the Niantic Studio interface. There I cannot create a QR code though.
No problem! My screenshot above is from Niantic Studio, so you shouldn’t have any issues. You can access the GSB from any Studio project by clicking the small map icon. Then just click any location.
Very well! Connecting the accounts worked. However, once I upload the test scan, it is marked “unaligned”. And indeed it shows up in a wrong spot about 30m away. Is there a fix for the alignment?
Is it a test scan? If so, that’s the reason it’s marked as unaligned—test scans don’t go through the full alignment process since they’re intended for testing purposes only.
Yes, it’s a test scan. Since it’s about 30m away from its actual location, it’s currently unusable. I attempted another test scan and encountered the same issue: this scan also appeared in a different spot. Is there a way to get the location accurately?
I recommend creating another test location that’s closer to the area where you want your scans to be tied. Based on your description, it seems like the current location is marked approximately 30 meters away from its actual intended spot.
You could also try going through the actual location creation process and see if you get better results there. I’ll reach out to the team and see what other options are available.
Hi George, I tried what you suggested and took some more test scans. Unfortunately the problem persists.
I successfully created a public location. The test scan, however, would be so much more convenient as I could just use my own desk for testing stuff instead of leaving the studio every time I want to test the project
It’s interesting that the issue persists even with a new scan. Could you share a screenshot showing where you expect the point to appear on the map, along with the location ID? You can find the ID by selecting the location and copying the URL from your browser…
Here’s a screenshot of the GSB with the three attempts to set up a test scan (pins) and the actual location (red cross). I’d rather not share the location ID as it’s my studio address
Could you please share the location ID either via direct message or by emailing it to support@8thwall.com? This will allow me to forward it to the mapping team for investigation.
