Gaussian splat black background

Hi everyone,

I have been working on some ideas using Studio with Gaussian Splat, and I noticed something different compared to the last time I used both.

Now, when I set my camera to “World” mode and load a Gaussian Splat using a .SPZ file, my entire scene turns black, and I can no longer see the camera feed.

Previously, even after loading my SPZ model, I could still see the camera feed. I’m not sure if something is misconfigured in my scene or if this is now the expected behavior?

Here (The Secret Shrine) is a previous portal experience I created with Studio using an SPZ file. In that experience, the black background issue was not present, but now when I start the experience, I get a black background.

Is there anything I can do to remove this black background while using a Gaussian Splat model in my scene?

Thank you

If you have any idea when the fix will be available, I’d be interested to know. If not, that’s okay I’ll wait. Thank you for checking and for your reply.

Hi @GeorgeButler

I did some more testing today, and I still have some problem with a black background when creating a new project with Studio and using a camera type World/AR.

Here is how you can reproduce this problem:

  1. I’m cloning Studio: World Effects project
  2. I remove everything (ground + cactus) and only keep the camera/light elements
  3. I add a new empty object
  4. On this new empty object I add a new component Mesh > geometry > splat URL and I select my .spz file
  5. I build and connect a new device for testing

→ Here the result: video
→ Here the spz file I’m using: file

This file.spz is the same file I used in my experience I shared above The Secret Shrine.

This Secret Shrine experience is now working as expected but when creating a new project with a spz file, I still encounter the black background problem with a camera type World/AR.

Just to add an important detail regarding this black background surrounding my Splat model:

This issue occurs when I use the Edit tool > Crop in Scaniverse, and then import the exported SPZ model into Studio.

Hi Alex, thanks for the update. I’ll update the team with this.
